Hazel Croom Caudill, 98, of Charlotte, passed away early Thursday morning, June 2, 2011. She was born July 26, 1912, in Kinston, North Carolina, the daughter of the late Robert Walter Croom and Lettie Pair Croom. She grew up in Knightdale, North Carolina, and graduated from Knightdale High School and then business school in Raleigh. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Matthew Caudill; her brothers, Williard P. Croom and Robert W. Croom. Her immediate family includes her son, Gentry Caudill and his wife, Carol; and her grandaughter, Britt Caudill, all of Charlotte. Mrs. Caudill was a member of St. John's Baptist Church and the Priscilla Sunday School Class. The Caudill family offers special thanks to the nurses and caretakers of the Health Care Center and all the staff of Sharon Towers for the compassionate care she was given. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorial contributions be made to one, or both, of the two very special organizations listed in the left column under "Place a Donation". * *
