Obituary

Listen to Obituary

Charlotte Pate, a beloved church pianist and devoted family member, was born on June 5, 1936, in Richmond, Virginia. She departed this life on January 31, 2026, at Clear Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation. She is survived by her devoted husband, Allen R. Pate, her daughter, Deborah Higel (Richard Higel), and her son, Mark Pate. Charlotte's loving legacy continues through her two granddaughters, Lauren Hoig and Sharon Pollard (Miles Pollard), as well as her great-granddaughter, Esther Pollard.

Charlotte's journey through life was marked by her profound love for music. A self-taught musician, she served as a church pianist at several congregations over the years, providing the uplifting music that was close to her heart in service to her Lord and Savior. Her passion extended beyond the piano; during her early years, she worked part-time as a cook and helper at a small Christian nursing home, where she formed a deep bond with the owner who loved her like a sister. Charlotte’s warm spirit resonated with the elderly ladies at the home, as she offered encouragement and companionship.

She was not only a gifted musician but also a nurturing homemaker. Charlotte took great joy in cooking for her family and friends, ensuring that every holiday meal was a feast. Her famous seven-layered salad became a cherished tradition at Christmas dinners, symbolizing her generous heart and desire to share love through her culinary creations. Charlotte made sure her family enjoyed balanced meals and often prepared more than enough to ensure everyone was satisfied.

Education played a vital role in Charlotte's life. She graduated from Toccoa Falls High School in Georgia in 1954, setting the foundation for her journey of service and love. With a personality that radiated kindness, she was elected as May Queen at her High School. Charlotte had a wonderful ability to laugh with others, drawing people into her warmth and sincerity. Her hobbies, like sewing and making jewelry, further showcased her creativity and zest for life.

Charlotte's family was her pride and joy. She adored her children and found profound happiness in being a grandmother. The time spent with her granddaughters brought her immense fulfillment and laughter, making those moments her favorite pastimes.

She is preceded in death by her daughter Valerie Dawn Pate, her father William Robertson, her mother Ruth Robertson, and her brothers Hilary, Marvin, and Ernest G. Robertson.

A visitation will take place on February 5, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at Fellowship Baptist Church in Mint Hill, NC. As we remember Charlotte, we celebrate a life rich in music, generosity, and love—a life that touched the hearts of many and will forever echo in the memories of those she cherished.
