Emily Bloodworth Hodge Lowder, 73, of Mint Hill, North Carolina passed away Wednesday morning, August 31, 2016, in her home surrounded by her loving family after a brief battle with cancer.
Emily was born on September 15, 1942, in York, South Carolina to Glenn and Mayme Bloodworth, both of whom have preceded her in death. Following her graduation from York High School in 1960, she was married to her first husband, Ronnie Hodge, on March 11, 1961. From then, Emily was a devoted homemaker before going to work as a cafeteria manager for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, from which she eventually retired in 2007.
In life, Emily enjoyed many things, but few, she loved more than spending time with her family and friends, watching Atlanta Braves baseball, traveling with her beloved current husband Johnny Lowder, and rejoicing in the Lord. Strong and unwavering in her faith, she was a former longtime member of Mill Grove United Methodist Church, and then later became a very active member of Hopewell Baptist Church and the Pilgrims Sunday school class.
Mrs. Lowder is preceded in death by her first husband Ronnie, son, Chuck, and step grandson, Mark Lowder. She is survived by many who loved her dearly, including her adoring husband of twelve years, Johnny Lowder; children Jeff Hodge & fiancée Audrey O'Rourke, and daughter Cheri & husband Jody Schill; stepchildren Johnny Lowder Jr. & wife Brenda, and Tim Lowder; grandchildren Ashley Pridgen (Scott), Bethany Hodge, & Emily and Austin Schill; step grandchildren Lori Graham (Cleveland), Jennifer Lowder, Michael Lowder (Alisha), and Stacey Lowder; siblings Max Bloodworth (Ruth), and Etta Marie Pressley (Wayne); in-laws Kay Harmon, Barbara Hodge, Jesse Lowder (Janice), Gene Lowder, Louise King (Fred), and Margie Long (Larry). She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and step great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the building funds of Hopewell Baptist and Mill Grove United Methodist churches in memory of Emily.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Hospice of Union County as well as to everyone who expressed kindness and caring to Emily during the last weeks of her life. Your cards and prayers brought a great sense of comfort to her in her final moments. - -
