Frances Charlotte Dix, affectionately known as Fran, left this world peacefully on May 26, 2025, at the age of 95, graduating to heaven into the eternal presence of God, where she is now more alive than ever. “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.”(2 Corinthians 5:8) As she entered heaven’s glory to be with Jesus I’m sure she heard “Well done, good and faithful servant”. She leaves behind a legacy woven with love, faith, and cherished memories.
Fran was born on May 8, 1930, in Cleveland, Ohio, and then lived in Toledo, Ohio throughout her early years. She married Richard Dix on December 5, 1949 after meeting him at the University of Toledo. Fran embodied a vibrant spirit that illuminated the lives of all who had the blessing to know her.
Her life was a testament to her faith, which she cherished deeply. She fervently loved Jesus, the family God gifted her with, and her friends. It was a great joy and blessing for her to serve as choir director and to lead praise and worship during various Bible studies. Her commitment to worship, prayer, and her avid study of the Bible, reflected the depth of her spirituality and her desire to nurture others’ faith.
Through the years, Fran was a source of warmth and comfort, earning her the endearing title of the “ministry of hugs”. Her open arms welcomed all who sought her embrace, each hug delivered with a gentle reminder of Jesus’ love. As a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a spiritual mentor to many, she nurtured not only her family, but also her community with an unwavering heart.
Fran created countless joyful moments, especially after moving to Anderson, South Carolina with her husband, Richard to be closer to family as they enjoyed retirement life on Lake Hartwell and golfing. There were many special, fun family times over the years that we will cherish.
Fran deeply loved her husband of 49 years, Richard, and her children, Deborah Franklin and her husband, John; Diane Guest; and Dale Dix, and his wife, Candace. She delighted in the joy of her grandchildren: Michael Franklin, Matthew Franklin, Nathan Guest, Faith Guest Silva, David Guest, Camille Dix Yother, and Evan Dix, as well as her beloved, great-grandchildren, including Ezra James Franklin, Eva Franklin, MegScott Franklin, Aaron Franklin, Samuel Franklin, Braiden Guest, Caitano Silva, Octavio Silva, Hudson Yother, Charlotte Yother, Anders Dix, Graham Oliver, and Everly Dix. With every generation, Fran poured her love and wisdom, fostering a bond that transcended time.
Though she leaves behind her beloved family, she reunites with those who have gone before her, including her husband, Richard Dix; her parents Ralph and Margaret Harris; her sisters, Ruth Greeley, and Jane Shock; her grandson, David Guest, and her great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Sophia Franklin. These departed souls will no doubt embrace her with open hearts, welcoming her into God‘s eternal presence where she is rejoicing and now more alive than ever.
Fran’s passing marks the end of a beautiful chapter of a life well-lived, filled with acts of kindness, relentless love, and a legacy of faith that will continue to inspire those she touched. As her loved ones mourn her absence, they find great peace in the assurance that she now rejoices in the company of Jesus, her greatest desire fulfilled. They hold fast to the promise of eternity, knowing that one day they will rejoice together in the presence of their Savior.
In celebrating Francis Charlotte Dix, we commemorate a remarkable life, devoted to Christ, her family, and her friends. Though she will be deeply missed, the echoes of her laughter and the warmth of her hugs will linger on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her best.
A service for the celebration of Fran’s life will be held on Saturday, July 12 at 2:00 PM at St. Giles Presbyterian Church, 2027 Emerywood Drive, Charlotte, NC 28210. A reception will follow the service in the Fellowship Hall. We ask that memorial gifts be made in Fran‘s name to St. Giles Presbyterian Church missions.
