Gay Smith

Gay Smith, age 97, passed away peacefully on May 17th, in Charlotte, NC. She was born January 5, 1928, in Hurricane, West Virginia to the late Emory and Hazel Leadmon.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Charles "Smitty" Smith; her brother, Wayne Leadmon; three sisters, Helen Duke, Edna Ross, and June Hedrick; her granddaughter, Sherry King; and her daughter-in-law, Connie Smith.

Gay is survived by her beloved son, Kenneth Smith of Charlotte, NC; brothers Joe Leadmon and Allen Leadmon of Hurricane, WV; sister Linda Hull of Culloden, WV; and her great-grandchildren, Jordyn King and Shiloh King, also of Charlotte, NC.

Throughout her career, Gay made significant contributions to the workplace, having worked in the business office at C & O Railroad and later serving as the office manager for the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance office in Charleston, West Virginia.

In her personal life, Gay enjoyed many hobbies, traveling with her husband and other couples, playing golf and bridge. These experiences brought her immense joy and allowed her to create memories that she spoke of throughout her life.

Gay leaves behind a legacy of love, and a spirit that will forever be remembered by those who knew her. She will be greatly missed, but her impact will continue to inspire and encourage all who were fortunate enough to be part of her life.

Funeral service will be held at 5 p.m., Tuesday, May 27th at Stephenson & Gaskin Funeral Services in Matthews, NC. Burial will be a private ceremony on Thursday, May 29th at Salisbury National Cemetery.

Visitation is from 4 pm to 5 pm, Tuesday, May 27th at the funeral home.
