Ivo Carlo Orlando Palazzo, 88, passed away on November 2, 2020 at home in Charlotte, NC. He was born on January 25, 1932 in Rome, Italy, but at a young age moved to Florence, Italy where he met his wife Marisa (Pini) Palazzo. He was the eldest of his five siblings and the son of Gaetano & Prima Palazzo. Shortly after his marriage in 1958, Ivo and Marisa moved with their eldest son Daniele to Rochester, NY, and had four more children; Lillian, Ruben, Marina, and Fabio. Ivo served in the Italian Air Force as a Radio engineer after WW2. In 1954 he was part of the national gymnastics team Sempre Avanti Juventus. Ivo worked in several career fields in his life; as a tailor, electrical engineer, and jeweler. He was passionate about electronics and cooking his native Italian cuisine and shared that skill with both his children and grandchildren. He was a devout Christian, well versed in the Bible from daily study. Ivo was an avid conversationalist and loved to meet and talk to new people. He enjoyed gardening very much and it was not uncommon for him to gift clippings of plants to his loved ones. Ivo was a patriarch in the true sense of the word and leaves behind an impressive legacy of love and family.
Ivo is survived by his wife of 62 years Marisa Palazzo of Charlotte, NC; sister Franca Cianchi of Italy; brother Emanuele Palazzo of Rochester, NY; brother Gabriele Palazzo of Rochester, NY; sister Joanne Santilli of Webster, NY; children Daniele Palazzo of Rochester, NY; Lilian (Hank) Mullen of Rochester, NY; Ruben (Cathy) Palazzo of Pittsville, MD; Marina Titus of Charlotte, NC; and Fabio (Anna) Palazzo of Charlotte, NC. He is also survived by grandchildren Carll Facer, Orlando Palazzo, Michael Facer, Stephanie Tilman, Christopher Palazzo, Alessandra Mauser, Sabrina Palazzo, Sara Palazzo, Sergio Palazzo, Daniela Palazzo, Marisa Palazzo, Victoria Palazzo, Lorenzo Palazzo, Ivo Palazzo, Malia Palazzo and Remo Palazzo, as well as 11 great grandchildren.
A memorial service for immediate family will be conducted at Gaskins Funeral Home in Matthews, NC at 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 19, 2020, followed by a graveside service at Sunset Memory Gardens in Mint Hill, NC. Social distancing will be observed and masks are mandatory at both locations.
