James Pierce Short Jr., known affectionately as Jim, was born on September 25, 1958, in Danville, Virginia. Jim's life came to a close on May 1, 2025, at his home in Lake Park in Indian Trail, North Carolina, after a courageous battle with cancer, fought with grace and determination.
Jim dedicated over 25 years of his professional life to the insurance industry, diligently working to earn his CIC designation. He spent his career selling commercial insurance and providing invaluable advice and counsel to his clients, leaving a lasting impact on those he served.
A graduate of Virginia Tech with a Bachelor's Degree in Business, Jim held a deep love for his alma mater. He was a devoted fan of the Virginia Tech Hokies, especially passionate about football, following the team closely through their ups and downs.
Jim was a person who radiated warmth and kindness. He was known for his engaging personality and his ability to connect with others. Friends and family recall his infectious humor and how he always had a story to share. His faith in Jesus was a cornerstone of his life, and it was evident in everything he did. Jim’s dedication to his faith was unwavering, and he often shared devotionals, such as “Our Daily Bread,” emphasizing his commitment to living a life grounded in spirituality.
Those close to him remember Jim as a loyal and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and son. He was always present for special events, ready to offer hugs and encouragement. The joy he derived from spending time with his family was clear to all who knew him. One cherished memory was his playful antics with “Bubba teeth,” which brought laughter to his grandchildren.
