Lana Jean Freeman, born on January 4, 1943, in Charlotte, North Carolina, departed this world peacefully in her sleep on February 19, 2026, at White Oaks Nursing Home. She was a kind and gentle soul who cherished the people in her life, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of love and kindness.
Lana graduated from East Mecklenburg High School and furthered her education at WC UNC in Greensboro, NC. She utilized her business degree throughout her career, becoming a dedicated employee at Pyramid Life Insurance in Charlotte, NC, and later with Signode Inc. and ITW Inc. in Atlanta, GA. Her professional contributions were significant, showcasing her work ethic and competence in her fields of endeavor.
Loved ones will fondly remember Lana for her unwavering commitment to family and friends. She had an extraordinary gift for remembering important dates, ensuring that everyone in her life felt cherished and celebrated on their special occasions. This thoughtful trait illustrated the depth of her caring nature, as she always took the time to recognize and appreciate those she held dear.
Lana was known for her sweet and compassionate personality, a sentiment echoed by her many friends, who recognized her warmth and generosity. Her hobbies included drawing, a talent she excelled at, alongside a passion for sewing. Many were graced with her beautifully crafted items, including the exquisite wedding dress she made for herself.
She is survived by her beloved brother, Paul Cuthbertson, and his wife, Joy. Additionally, her niece, Liesl West, and her husband, Mike, along with their children Taylor (and her husband Jason) and Avery, brought her immense joy. Her nephew, Joshua Cuthbertson, and his wife, Aileen, also added light to her life through their children Hannah, Maggie, and Reese. Lana also leaves behind her step-sibling, John Shannon and step-niece Stephanie Chawla.
Lana’s passing marks the end of an era filled with kindness and love. She joins her deceased family members, including her father, P.G. Cuthbertson, Sr., her mother, Billie Huntley Cuthbertson Shannon, and her stepfather, Al Shannon, along with his daughter, Sandra Thornton. Though they are gone, their memories live on in the hearts of those left behind.
A Celebration of Life will be held on March 20, 2026, at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church in Charlotte, NC, alongside a visitation. Lana will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit will continue to inspire love and thoughtfulness in a world that so deeply needs it.
