Luke D. Dubois passed away on September 3, 2025. Born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1952, he was the son of the late Mary O. and Arthur W. Dubois. He grew up in Wethersfield, Connecticut, as one of six brothers. At the time of his passing, Luke lived in Matthews, North Carolina, with his beloved wife of nearly 40 years, Lisa Dubois (Levenson).
Luke attended the University of Connecticut, the University of Kentucky, and the University of Colorado. After serving in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era, he began his career as a farm manager in Lexington, Kentucky, where he oversaw large and successful thoroughbred racing operations. Later, he transitioned into the field of orthopedics, where he spent the second half of his remarkable career and was remembered by many for his exceptional care and compassion.
An avid outdoorsman, Luke found peace and joy in nature. He loved hiking, whitewater kayaking, biking, and fishing and shared these passions with his daughters, spending countless weekends adventuring together. His family was his greatest pride and joy. In a letter to Lisa, he once wrote, “We are growing old and grumpy together, but we sure have two terrific daughters to show for our union and a world of great memories. I’m glad we made this journey together.”
Luke treasured his role as a grandfather, especially the time he spent with his first granddaughter, Addie. He eagerly awaited the arrival of his two newest granddaughters, whom he, sadly, did not have the chance to meet.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa; his daughters, Ali Youngling (Dubois) and her husband, Trent, and their daughters Addison and Ellie; and Chase Harner (Dubois) and her husband, Brad, and their daughter, Blake. He is also survived by his five brothers Mark, Matthew, Thomas, John, and James Dubois and a large extended family and many dear friends.
Luke’s ashes will be spread in the mountains and rivers he loved so deeply. In tribute to his lifelong appreciation for nature and conservation, more than 400 trees have been planted in his honor.
