Mike Mahoney

Kevin Michael Mahoney, 68, passed away, Tuesday, June 24, 2025. He was born on September 8, 1956 in Phillipsburg, New Jersey.

Mike is survived by his son K. Michael Mahoney, II and wife, Angeline; daughter Dara Barnett and husband, Brad; daughter Ashley Mahoney and fiancé, Danny; granddaughters Lilyana and Adalyn Barnett; brother, Daniel Mahoney (Debbie); sisters Theresa Horn and Kelly Wilson and siblings in law, April and Stephen Jensen, David and JoAnn Zackey, Christine and Patrick Slack, John Winecker and a large extended family.

Mike graduated from Valley Forge Christian College on April 28, 1984. He was an ordained minister and part of the pastoral staff at churches in New Jersey, Connecticut, Virginia, New York and North Carolina. He was also an accomplished carpenter and taught General Contracting to at-risk Central and South American kids for 20 years at Delaware Valley Job Corps in Callicoon, NY. Mike loved all sports. He was an accomplished swimmer and diver in high school, played collegiate basketball and later coached his son’s little league teams and both his daughter’s soccer teams. When his kids were grown, he continued coaching the guys at Job Corps and often said that the soccer field was his mission field to share Jesus. He was still coaching this spring at Charlotte Soccer Academy.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 40 years, Mary; his father, Edward J. Mahoney and his mother Barbara A. Stratford.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at 4pm at Mercy Church - Union County Campus, 1744 Williams Road, Monroe, NC 28110. All are welcome.
