Born in 1926 in Trinidad, Cuba, Orquidea Naramore experienced vast changes in all areas of life. In Cuba, she enjoyed the closeness of her family including three sisters and a brother. Music and dancing were special interests of hers. She especially enjoyed partnering with her brother at popular clubs in Havana. At the age of 33 she fled her home to protect her two young sons, Wilmore and Marino, from a savage dictator and communism. Her only available refuge was Memphis, Tennessee, and she found the city to be in turmoil with the Civil Rights unrest. During that time her two nieces, Marcia and Irene, and one sister, Haydee joined her for a brief time. She met and married David Naramore in 1964. Then in 1969, she moved her family to Miami, Florida to be reunited with her mother, brother and sisters. There they participated in that city becoming an international magnet. No matter how turbulent the times were, Orquidea's passion remained her family. She will forever remain fixed in their minds as the vivacious and energetic wife and mother who kept life from becoming anything other than mundane. She was a responsibly hard worker and instilled that value along with the value of education and frugality in her sons. But she also found time for laughter. She organized family picnics, bowling, sporting events, and parties. Wil said, "I will always remember Mom for the sacrifices she made and the love she gave. Mom is now in heaven dancing with the Lord." Her husband David and her son, Wil, her grandchildren and six great grandchildren will miss her terribly and forever remember her laughter and humor. Orquidea Naramore, 88, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away early Tuesday morning, July 14, 2015. -
