Phyllis Groseclose, 92, of Charlotte, NC passed away on May 16th, 2022. Phyllis was born on March 6, 1930 in Fall River, Massachusetts to Edith and Everett Atwell. Phyllis attended Lowell High School in Massachusetts and she graduated in 1948. After high school, Phyllis went on to Edgewood Park Finishing School and graduated in 1950.
Phyllis was a very talented artist and homemaker. She loved to paint flowers and scenic vistas in oil and later in watercolors. Phyllis had many friends and she enjoyed spending time with them, especially her best friend and next door neighbor of 40+ years, Helga Molnar. In her younger years, Phyllis loved to play tennis, snow ski and ice skate. She also enjoyed winning a few dollars from her friends in a spirited game of bridge.
Her family would joke with her that butter and Thomas' English muffins kept her going all those years. Phyllis also enjoyed knitting with the Busy Bees at the Brightmore South Charlotte. Together they knitted and donated hundreds of hats/caps for newborn babies. Phyllis really enjoyed retirement home living and it was evident that she was loved by many at Brightmore.
Phyllis Atwell met her to-be husband, Bernard Groseclose at West Market Street Methodist Church in Greensboro, NC. They later married and went on to have three children, Lynn, Alan and Scott Groseclose.
Phyllis was predeceased by her parents, Edith and Everett Atwell of Greensboro, NC. Phyllis is survived by her brother Alan Atwell, and her children Lynn, Alan and Scott Groseclose, 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. A private committal service will be held at Southpark Church on June 18, 2022 at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Levine Children's Hospital in Charlotte, NC.
