Ronald Anthony Furr Sr.

August 11, 1957 — March 16, 2019

Ronald Anthony Furr Sr. "Ron", 61, husband of Mary Delargy Furr passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at his home in Matthews, NC surrounded by family after a long and tough battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis and Lung Cancer.

Born August 11, 1957, in Charlotte, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Henry Lee Furr Jr. and Lou Doris Shaw Furr.

Mr. Furr graduated from Indian Land High School and was wed to Mary Delargy Furr on July 4, 1981 at Independence Park in Charlotte, NC.

He joined the Air Force in 1981 and was stationed at Keesler Air Force Base (AFB), Seymour Johnson AFB, Eglin AFB, Osan Air Base and Patrick AFB. After 11 years of active Air Force duty, he went into the Air National Guard and served there for an additional 21 years. During his time in the Air National Guard, he attended and graduated from Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) with an Associate's Degree in Electronic Engineering. He retired as a Master Sergeant after serving 30+ years.

He worked for American Dornier Machinery Corporation from 1994-2019 and most recently served as the Electronics Department Manager.

Ron had a knack for woodworking and could do about anything handy. He enjoyed being outdoors and working on his yard and home. You would frequently find him in his outdoor backyard oasis! He was always the life of the party and had many stories and could keep folks entertained for hours.

He is survived by his wife, Mary of Matthews, NC; their sons Tony Furr and his fiancée Lindsey Walsh of Greensboro, NC and Ricky Furr and his wife Marie Furr along with his granddog Ollie of Mint Hill, NC; his sisters Doris Lee Parks and her husband Ronald Parks of Albemarle, NC and Norma Furr of Albemarle, NC; as well as, several nieces, nephews, and extended members of the family.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Furr was predeceased by his grandfather Henry Lee Furr Sr. and grandmother Mae Furr, and his pets Keebie and Hans.
