Ruby Watson Jackson of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away peacefully Monday, June 30th. She was born on February 27, 1936, in Charlotte to Furman Chaple Watson, Sr. and Mattie Pauline Watson. Ruby was a graduate of North Mecklenburg High School and dedicated many years of her professional life to Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, where she built lasting relationships with colleagues and demonstrated unwavering commitment to her work. A woman of deep faith, Ruby was an active and devoted member of Carmel Baptist Church in Charlotte, where she found great joy in serving her community and singing in the choir. Her love of hospitality and generous spirit extended beyond the church walls, as she took immense pleasure in planning and hosting family gatherings that brought loved ones together. Ruby served for many years on the welcoming committee for her neighborhood, embodying the warmth and kindness that defined her character. She also found peace and fulfillment in gardening, nurturing both plants as well as the many relationships that enriched her life.
Ruby was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Edward Jackson; her parents, Furman Chaple Watson Sr. and Mattie Pauline Watson; her sisters, Clelia and Edith; and her brothers, James, Herman, Elbert, Charles, and Furman. She is survived by her sister, Sara Watson Cochrane, and her brother, Douglas Watson. Ruby's legacy lives on through her daughters, Paige McKnight of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Patti Harris (John) of Acworth, Georgia. She was a cherished grandmother to Jeffrey McKnight, Courtney Harris Long (Andrew), and Jackson Harris. Ruby's family expanded to include six great-grandchildren who brought her tremendous joy: Cole McKnight, and Anastasia, Arthur, Louie, Catalina, and Hallelujah Long.
Ruby's life was marked by her dedication to family, faith, and service to others. Her memory will be treasured by all who knew and loved her. Memorial service will take place Friday, August 1 at 11:00AM at Carmel Baptist Church, Charlotte, North Carolina. There will be a graveside service announced at a later date that will take place at Woodside Cemetery in Clover, South Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Carmel Baptist Church.
