She was born in Morganton, North Carolina, and was the daughter of the late William Ernest Clark and Cornelia Burris Whistnant Clark. Her immediate family includes her husband, Alan Schwarz; two daughters, Jeanette Bradshaw, and Kathie B. Lefler; her sister, Jean Strickland; two grandchildren. - -
