Sylvia Quantina Dunn, affectionately known as "Mook," passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026, at Atrium Health of Cabarrus in Concord, North Carolina. Born on September 16, 1982, in Charlotte, Sylvia’s vibrant life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, creativity, resilience, and the lasting impact of her warm spirit.
Sylvia was cherished most for her personality—an exceptional blend of caring, spontaneity, love, and down-to-earth humility. She had a beautiful soul that shone through her ever-present smile and amazing sense of humor. A woman of great kindness and acceptance, Sylvia embraced adventure with open arms, filling her days with art, music, dancing, and travel, passions that truly defined her. Her talent and creativity were apparent to all who knew her, and she nurtured her love for beauty and fashion with remarkable dedication. Above all, it was her unwavering spirit and resilience that left an indelible mark on her community and loved ones.
Her educational journey took her through Hawthorn School in Charlotte, NC, and the Seventh Day Adventist Church, foundations that helped shape her faith and values. Sylvia was a devoted member of the Foundations of True Ministries, guided by Pastor JC Porter and First Lady Rena Porter, where her spirit and enthusiasm were deeply felt by her church family.
Sylvia’s proudest accomplishments were her children, whom she loved with all her heart. They were the center of her world, and her devotion to them was a testament to her strength, unconditional love, and nurturing nature. Destiny Dunn, Jalen Patterson, Kayla Dunn, Khalil Nash, and her beloved grandchildren Lovely, Fancy, Kyon, Majesty, Willow, and Harmony will carry forward her legacy of love and determination.
She is lovingly remembered and survived by her mother, Angela Dunn; stepfather, Rodney Curry; father, Willie Joiner; stepmother, Subrenia Joiner; and grandmother, Ruby Dunn, who is married to Arthur. Sylvia’s family also includes her sisters of Charlotte, N.C., Jana Dunn, Tiffany Dunn, and Jasmine Dunn; stepsister Trianna Coffey; stepbrother Shon Coffey. Each was blessed by her extraordinary spirit and devotion.
Sylvia’s life was also marked by the loving memories of those dear to her who have passed before: Jessie Dunn of Charlotte, NC., and grandparents Bessie and David Joiner of Waxhaw, NC.
Sylvia Dunn aka "Mook" light will forever illuminate the hearts of those who knew her. Her legacy of kindness, creativity, fearless joy, and the fierce love she bore for her family will remain a beacon of inspiration and comfort. Though her physical presence has left us, the echoes of her laughter, warmth, and beautiful soul will continue to inspire and uplift all who were fortunate enough to call her family or friend. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and endlessly cherished.
