Celebrating the Life of Timothy Paul Howie

Timothy (Tim) Paul Howie passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 9, 2026, following a sudden heart attack.

Tim was born on April 24, 1976, in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was a Senior Systems Engineer for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, where he worked for the past ten years.

Tim graduated from Garinger High School in Charlotte in 1994. He then attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in December 1999, earning a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Bachelor of Arts in Peace, War and Defense. His intellectual curiosity never waned and shaped both his career and his life. Tim believed deeply in the power of knowledge. An avid reader and lifelong learner, Tim was intelligent and quick-witted. His humor blended sarcasm and facts, often punctuated by perfectly timed references to The Simpsons and Family Guy.

Tim’s passion for travel took him to Iceland and New Zealand, and he was eagerly looking forward to celebrating his 50th birthday in Japan.

Tim cared deeply for others and often took their disappointments to heart. He believed strongly in right and wrong and was a keen observer of the world around him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Boyce Howie. He is survived by his mother, Lee Torrence Howie, and their beloved maltipoo, Brandy. He encouraged his mother to stay active, supporting her own travel plans. He is also survived by his three brothers, Barry Howie; Hank Hightower and wife Tiffani; and Brian Howie, and wife Tara. Tim was a devoted uncle to Quint, Bobby, Zach, Miranda, Noah, Crissy, Cameron, Joseph and Sarah and a proud great-uncle to AJ.

Tim will forever live in the hearts of his family and friends. His family finds peace knowing he was saved and now lives with his Savior, Jesus Christ. We carry his heart in ours until we meet again.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Tim’s honor to Operation Helo at https://www.operationhelo.org/donate.
