Charlotte

William Thomas "Tom" Estep, 77, passed away on August 22, 2024, in Charlotte, NC. He was a beloved father, husband, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Tom was born on September 17, 1946, in Beckley, West Virginia, where he spent his formative years. He went on to graduate from Woodrow Wilson High School class of 1964. Tom later joined the Army, proudly serving in Vietnam from 1967 to 1970. Later he became a land surveyor and crew chief which eventually took him to WK Dickson & Co. Inc. in Charlotte, NC. Throughout his career, he was known for his incredible work ethic, his dedication to his company and crew, and a passion for getting the job done correctly and on time.

In his free time, Tom was an avid outdoorsman. Tom loved the mountains of West Virginia, and would spend precious time hunting turkey and deer, and floating and fishing in the New River. Some of his favorite moments were spent sitting around a campfire with family and friends singing songs and telling stories. Tom was also an amazing musician, playing drums and percussion in bands throughout the early 50’s and 60’s.Even in his later years, Tom would spend hours entertaining friends and guests sitting behind his favorite drum kit.

Tom was also a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. Tom was an active church member throughout his life. He served by providing transportation which helped families get to church. He also served during Communion services, local church mission projects, and he shared the love of Christ through a joyful smile, and a true servant heart.

More than anything, Tom was a devoted husband and father. He was married to his high school sweetheart for 57 years. He loved spending time with his daughters, and his grandchildren teaching them about life, and the outdoors that he loved so much. He would share stories, provide guidance, and support their interests with never ending encouragement. Tom especially loved attending his grandchildren’s events. He loved watching his grandson’s wrestle, spent hours and miles on skateboarding road trips, and went to dance recitals and art exhibitions, all which filled with him joy and pride for his family’s talents.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Dolly Louise Estep, his daughters Natalie Estep Ogden and Rachel Estep Cauble, his sons in law Kenneth McDonald Ogden, and Anthony Brian Cauble, and his grandchildren Samuel Thomas Ogden, Caroline Grace Ogden, Jacob Thomas Cauble, and Noah Brian Cauble.
