William Franklin Troutman Sr., a beloved son, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on January 29, 2026, at the age of 93. Born on October 27, 1932, William's life was marked by dedication to his family, his country, and his community.
After graduating from Bethel High School, William answered the call of duty and joined the U.S. Air Force on his 18th birthday. His service included time stationed in Germany and allowed him to experience many cultures across Europe during his nearly three years in the military. This formative experience shaped his character and instilled in him a profound sense of duty and commitment.
Upon returning home, William dedicated himself to the family dairy farm, which he helped run alongside his father, Lewis Samuel Troutman. As a testament to his hard work and perseverance, he later purchased the farm from his father and transitioned it into a successful beef cattle operation. William’s love for farming and his tireless work ethic left a lasting imprint on the land he cherished.
In addition to his agricultural endeavors, he served as a rural letter carrier with the United States Postal Service, where he devoted 35 years before retiring. His connection with the community through his postal work endeared him to many, and he became a familiar and cherished presence in the lives of those he served.
William is remembered lovingly by his surviving family members: his daughters, Karen Duncan, Janice Schmugge, Ginger Pains; and Farrah Troutman and his sons, William Troutman Jr., Robert Troutman, and Forrest Troutman; along with 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren who carry forward his legacy of love and commitment to family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Chaney Troutman; his parents, Ida Susan Stancil Troutman and Lewis Samuel Troutman; five brothers, Marvin Troutman, Howard Troutman, Leonard Troutman, Harold Troutman, Carl Troutman; and three sisters, Ann Brown, Louise Smith, and Jean Clontz. Their memories live on in the stories told and the love shared among his family.
A visitation honoring William Franklin Troutman Sr. will be held on February 4, 2026, from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM with funeral service to follow at 12:00 PM at First Baptist Church Midland, located at 4720 Garmon Mill Rd, Midland, NC. William's warmth, humor, and unwavering dedication will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
